Fortunately, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong shared some claims statistic in Apr 2016 and it was reported by Channel NewsAsia.
Around S$90 million has been paid out since ElderShield was launched in 2002, with about 12,500 successful claims.
“As at end 2015, there were 1.2 million ElderShield policyholders, or about 65 per cent of the resident population aged 40 to 83,” said Mr Gan in a written reply.

Aviva’s claims statistics shows that 70% of our ElderShield claims are from those aged below 55
ElderShield claims can happen before age 55!
Hence, one should not feel that ElderShield is unimportant and decided to opt out. In fact, he/she should keep the ElderShield and do further enhancement if he/she has the financial ability to do so.
